Maintain Your Home for the Long Run.

Your days are busy! They may start with taking your kids to school and then, before you know it, your day is over. You are tired and exhausted. There are so many things that aren’t important at that moment, you put them on the back burner. One of those things we tend to put on the back burner is the maintenance of our home.

Most of us won’t do any maintenance until we see symptoms of wood rot, water overflowing the gutters, or our air conditioner isn’t working. By this time there is probably some damage that is costly, which could’ve been prevented by annual maintenance and inspections.

Because our lives are so busy we do forget that our home is one of, or the biggest, investment that we will ever make financially. I want to help you not make the mistake of reducing the value of your home by default. Below are two very simple, yet crucial steps that you can follow to increase your return and protect your investment.

1st Step

Make a List

Think of all the things that require maintenance semi-annually, annually, or even every two years. We tend to have a hard time remembering the things that are out of sight such as changing the filter, or making sure the gutters aren’t clogged. After you’ve done this take the next step.

2nd Step

Organization

  1. Don’t laugh. There is a 99% chance you have this, but you don’t use it for maintaining your home. Your Email and Internet Calendar! These are perfect for reminding yourself to call or email your service provider to perform your annual maintenance. In most internet email programs, you can have an email sent a year later to yourself or to the contractor. It can even be recurring. It works!

  2. Call your service provider and ask them to send a periodic reminder or call you when you are due for maintenance.

  3. Subscribe to a newsletter or news feed from that particular contractor.

  4. When you make an appointment, immediately make a note on a future date to call them for another service.
